Jackson fends off Everett

EVERETT – The Jackson Timberwolves took advantage of their size up front to outlast the Everett Seagulls 3-2 in a key Western Conference South Division volleyball match Tuesday night at Everett High School.

With the victory, Jackson (6-2 division, 10-3 overall) remained tied for second place with Edmonds-Woodway in the South standings.

Everett (5-3, 9-4) rallied from an 0-2 deficit in games (13-25, 15-25), to win games three and four 25-21 and 25-22, respectively.

Audra Linsenmyer (23 assists) and Brittany Shaw (15 kills) led the Timberwolves in the decisive game five, which Jackson won 15-4.

“It was a hard-fought match, but in the end their hitters produced and we ran out of gas,” Everett coach Heather Berglund said.

Paige Coleman led Everett with 11 kills and six blocks and Maureen Frauenholtz had nine kills, 26 assists and 10 digs for the Seagulls.

“After graduating 11 seniors from last season’s team, I’m proud of this year’s group,” Berglund said.

Shorecrest 3, Lynnwood 0: At Lynnwood, Kate Watkins had five kills, Mary Tseng had 14 kills and Anna Herold had 24 assists and four aces to lead Shorecrest (5-3 division, 8-5 overall) to the 25-21, 25-15, 25-21 Wesco South victory. Kaitlyn Dill had seven kills, Heather McCartney had 25 assists and Katie Swengel had three kills for Lynnwood (3-5, 5-8). With the win, Shorecrest clinched a 3A District 1 playoff berth. Lynnwood plays South Whidbey Monday in a winner-to-district, loser-out match.

Meadowdale 3, Shorewood 0: At Shoreline, Tessa Eberth recorded 15 digs and Katie Cowan had 25 assists as Meadowdale (2-6 in division, 3-10 overall) won the Wesco South game 27-25, 25-19, 25-18 over Shorewood (1-7, 1-13). Chelsea Goodrich had 14 assists and Stephanie West added three kills and six digs for the Thunderbirds.

Edmonds-Woodway 3, Mariner 1: At Edmonds, Grace Pratt had 15 kills and Kelly House had 44 assists to lead Edmonds-Woodway (6-2 in division, 9-4 overall) to the 25-22, 23-25, 25-28, 25-16 Wesco South victory. Shannon Peterson had 30 assists for Mariner (2-6, 2-11).

Kamiak 3, Mountlake Terrace 0: At Mukilteo, Lauren Poole had 15 digs and Elisabeth Smith added 16 assists to lead Kamiak (8-0 division, 12-1 overall) to a 25-20, 25-15, 25-18 Wesco South victory. Bianca Rowland had 10 kills for Mountlake Terrace (2-6, 2-11).

Monroe 3, Lake Stevens 1: At Monroe, Kelsey Brennan had seven kills, two blocks and was 24-for-25 serving and Jordan Birch added nine kills and one block as Monroe (5-2 in division, 9-4 overall) won the Wesco North game, 21-25, 25-21, 25-8, 25-17 over Lake Stevens (2-6, 5-9). Karissa Tri had eight kills and Rachael Boehme had five aces for the Vikings.

Snohomish 3, Arlington 0: At Snohomish, Tricia Alonso had 16 digs and Ellie Herad had five kills to lead Snohomish (7-0 division, 13-0 overall) to the 25-18, 25-20, 25-15 Wesco North win. Kari O’Sullivan had five blocks and 10 kills and Shayna Prause had 10 kills for Arlington (1-6, 5-9).

Oak Harbor 3, Mount Vernon 0: At Oak Harbor, Jennifer Muzzall had 10 kills and five blocks to lead the Wildcats (4-3 in division, 8-5 overall) to the 25-17, 25-17, 25-16 Wesco North victory. Mount Vernon (2-5, 4-8) had 15 blocks in the game.

Stanwood 3, Cascade 0: At Everett, Whitney Appleby recorded 23 assists and Alisha Alfui added eight kills to lead Stanwood (6-1 in division, 11-2 overall) to the Wesco North win, 25-15, 25-18, 25-16 over Cascade (1-6, 2-11). Whitney Hooks had seven kills and Brandi Klemm had 12 digs for the Bruins.

Cedarcrest 3, King’s 1: At Duvall, Whitney Oviatt 15 kills and 11 digs to lead 25-23, 15-25, 25-22, 26-24 Cedarcrest (11-1 league, 13-1 overall) to the Cascade Conference victory and at least a tie for the league championship. For King’s (10-1, 11-1), Sara Mosiman had 13 kills, 13 digs and three aces; Kailey Trautmann had 13 kills and 11 digs; Kim Mayhle had nine kills; Jamie Hartman had 22 digs, and Alex Morris had 34 assists.

Granite Falls 3, Lakewood 1: At Lakewood, Julie Saltmarsh had 13 kills and Julie Alexander added 24 assists, two blocks and seven digs to lead Granite Falls (2-9 league, 3-11 overall) to the 24-26, 25-17, 25-18, 25-22 Cascade Conference victory. Jessica Boe had 19 assists and Karlie Kaska had 11 digs and five kills to lead Lakewood (1-10, 2-12).

Coupeville 3, Friday Harbor 2: At Friday Harbor, Beth Mouw had 24 assists and three aces and Kayla Smith was 19-for-19 serving as Coupeville (5-3 in league, 5-7 overall) won the Northwest 1A/B match 20-25, 18-25, 25-17, 27-25, 15-6 over Friday Harbor (1-7, 3-9). Jennifer Bailey and Jessica Graham combined for 20 kills for the Wolves.
