Jackson nabs another softball title

MOUNTLAKE TERRACE -For the third year in a row, the Jackson Timberwolves softball team is the Western Conference South champion.

The Timberwolves earned their third consecutive No. 1 seed into the 4A District One tournament Wednesday by cruising to an 11-0 win over Mountlake Terrace at Mountlake Terrace High School.

Jenna Morhweis batted 3-for-5 with two runs scored and Nena Slocum added two hits – including a triple – two runs and a RBI for Jackson.

Winning the South title and the No. 1 berth “is what everybody shoots for,” Jackson head coach Mike Moran said.

The Mill Creek area continues to produce winning baseball and softball squads. Jackson’s baseball team also clinched the Wesco South title on Monday. Both teams have combined for just five losses in two seasons.

“It goes in cycles and right now the Mill Creek area is going through a real good cycle,” Moran said.

Jackson’s Lauren Reid pitched the shutout, despite giving up 12 walks.

“That’s what it’s going to take in districts,” Moran said. “Leave people stranded and clutch up when we need to at the plate.”

Mountlake Terrace pitcher Lindsay Cook worked seven innings and had four strikeouts.
