EVERETT — Jackson wide receiver Travante Robinson scored a rushing TD and caught three more, including a 51-yard pass from quarterback Alex Cheesman in the third quarter that put the Timberwolves up 47-32, and the Timberwolves outlasted Mariner 54-38 in an offensive showcase at Everett Memorial Stadium on Friday night.
Robinson finished the game with seven receptions for 200 yards.
“Tray is a huge impact player,” said Jackson head coach Joel Vincent. “Both him and Alex can be seriously dangerous when they have open space.”
Early on it looked as though Mariner running back Joshua Williamson was going to have his second dominant performance in a row. Williamson ran for 134 of his 186 yards and scored three times in the first half. Williamson began the second half by picking off a Cheesman pass on the very first play of the third quarter running the ball two plays later for his fourth score of the night to give Mariner its one and only lead of the game.
“We changed our basic allignment,” said Vincent on his teams defensive adjustment in the second half. “At half I told (my team) let’s get them into second and third and long, make them do something they don’t want to do. I was really happy with how our defense played in the second half.”
Jackson responded with a Nick White 96-yard kickoff return and didn’t look back, scoring 26 unanswered points en route to the win.
