Jackson preps for sectional with sweep

MUKILTEO – In tuning up for the upcoming sectional meet, the Jackson girls swimming team was in ideal postseason form, easily defeating Mariner 118-61 in the final Wesco South dual meet of the season.

The Timberwolves were impressive throughout, sweeping all of the races, losing only the diving to the Marauders’ Jasmine Bragg.

Marina Pomar-Enders won the 500-yard freestyle with a state meet qualifying time of five minutes, 26.58 seconds and won the 100 butterfly for good measure (1:07.52).

Boys tennis

Wesco North meet: At Arlington, Cascade’s Clayton Shaw captured a district tournament berth in singles by winning his semifinal match. The Stanwood team of Daniel Redfern and Zach Tafoya and the Cascade team of Steven Winkels and Colten Brandenburg also secured district berths and will meet in the doubles final today.

Wesco South meet: At Mill Creek, top-seeded Nomar Mapalo of Shorewood won the singles championship, defeating third-seeded Richard Oam of Jackson, 6-3, 6-2 in the final. They will be the Nos. 1 and 2 seeds from the division to next week’s District 1 meet. The first-seeded team of Nico Clairmont and Scott Sheldon of Edmonds-Woodway edged second-seeded Neil Fenning and Patrick Donnely of Meadowdale, 6-1, 7-6 (7-4) in the doubles final. They will be the Nos. 1 and 2 South seeds to district.

Volleyball

Shoreline Christian 3, Orcas Island 2: At Shoreline, Julia DeKoekKoek had 17 kills, Jennette DeKoekKoek helped with 19 assists and Alyssa Nelson had 18 digs and 12 kills as Shoreline Christian (6-3 in league, 7-5 overall) won the Northwest 1A/B match 14-25, 25-18, 35-33, 17-25, 15-12 over Orcas Island (5-4, 5-4).
