LAKEWOOD – Jackson claimed eight of the top 16 spots to win the Western Conference 3A championship Wednesday at Lakewood High School.
Stanwood’s Nick Cairus won the race with a time of 16 minutes, 28 seconds. He was nine seconds faster than runnerup Russ Pruden of Everett.
Jackson’s Evan Wirkkala (16:44) and Devin Pasche (16:47) finished third and fourth, respectively. Teammate Corey Nuro was sixth.
“They were a very tight, solid pack,” said Stanwood coach Paul Johnson. “We’d hoped to get a little closer. We ran well, but Jackson was just very, very good.”
Lynnwood’s Joel Mittleman, who won a state wrestling title last winter, finished fifth, and teammate Eric Walkingshaw was seventh.
Sean Smith (Stanwood), Clint Bjella (Everett) and Brandon Renfrow (Jackson) rounded out the top 10.
