Jackson quarterback passes Timberwolves by Meadowdale

EDMONDS – Meadowdale took the opening drive of the second half from its own 47-yard line to the Jackson 2, where the Mavericks fumbled into the end zone and Jackson recovered for a touchback.

It was just that kind of night for the Mavericks Friday at Edmonds Stadium as the Timberwolves won the Wesco South game 24-21.

Jackson was led by junior quarterback Jake Gelakoska who was 12-for-28 for 178 yards. Gelakoska looked like a seasoned veteran in the first half. The half’s final drive demonstrated all his best attributes.

Jackson got the ball on its own 47 with two minutes and 54 seconds left in the half. On first down, Gelakoska dropped back to pass. Seeing no one open, he scrambled up the middle of the Maverick defense for 16 yards.

The next play was a 7-yard pass to wide receiver Kawika Emsley-Pai in the right flat. On second down, Gelakoska completed an 18-yard pass to his other wide out, Kevin Salkey (five receptions for 102 yards) slashing across the middle.

After an incompletion on second-and-10, tight end Ryan Brown caught a pass on the right side of the Meadowdale defense. Brown rumbled down to the 4 carrying tackles the last 4 yards of a 9-yard gain.

Meadowdale running back Kevin Kim rushed 84 yards on 14 carries and scored two touchdowns.
