Jackson spoils Everett party

EVERETT – The Everett Seagulls’ exciting yet sporadic passing game was no match for Jackson’s running attack in the Western Conference South Division game Friday night.

The Timberwolves ruined Everett’s homecoming game by winning 31-20.

The soggy conditions help keep the scoring low early in the game. At the half, the score was tied at 7-7.

With Everett’s defense missing in action in the third quarter, Jackson’s offense took off running.

Running back Mardele Robertson scored on an 81-yard touchdown run, giving Jackson what proved to be an insurmountable 17-7 lead.

The Seagulls came right back when quarterback John Cronin threw a 69-yard touchdown pass to T.J. Gapne. The play temporarily brought life back into Everett.

Starting off the fourth quarter, the Jackson backfield trio of Johnnie Kirton, C.J. Marsh and Robertson milked the clock. They used up more than seven minutes until Timberwolf quarterback Mike Kummerfeldt could score from 6 yards out. The senior started in place of Jason Morris, who was out with a hamstring injury.

On the next offensive play for Everett, Cronin completed a short pass to Nico Severs, who then took off for 65 yards and a touchdown. It was too little too late, though. Jackson ran out the few remaining minutes in the fourth quarter.

The Timberwolves took advantage of three of Everett’s five fumbles. The pigskin squirted around the wet turf eight times.
