Jackson sweeps into Wesco South singles final

MILL CREEK — It will be an all-Jackson final in the Wesco South tennis tournament, as Richard Oam will face teammate Robin Choi for the singles championship today.

Oam, who had a bye in the first round, defeated Shorewood’s Stephen Chung 6-1, 6-1, then beat Mountlake Terrace’s Rhett Bouche 6-0, 6-0, to advance to today’s title match.

Choi, who also had a first-round bye, defeated Ryan Warren of Edmonds-Woodway 6-3, 6-2, then beat Kamiak’s Abe Ahn 6-2, 6-4 to earn the matchup with Oam, last year’s district champion.

Ahn faces fellow Knight Chris Klaczynski and Bouche faces Shorewood’s Spencer Shin in the consolation bracket. The winners will play to determine the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds to the district tournament.

Monroe 1, Arlington 0: At Monroe, Hannah Hawkins scored in the 71st minute on an assist from Kaitlyn Chesemore and Dani Philippart recorded the shutout as the Bearcats beat the Eagles in the Wesco North contest.

Snohomish 2, Stanwood 1 (2OT): At Stanwood, Brooke Gilbert scored the game-winner in the 88th minute off an assist from Melanie Bjornethun as the Panthers remained undefeated in Wesco North play.
