Johnson wins Night 1 of 360 Nationals at Skagit Speedway

ALGER, Wash. — It’s a long drive from Eunice, LA to winners circle at ASA Sanctioned Skagit Speedway. Jason Johnson, one of the stalwarts of the ASCS National Touring Series parlayed a front row start to a 30-lap main event win on Friday night of the Bob’s Burgers and Brew 360 Nationals.

The evening started with Rick Fauver setting fast time in time trials pacing the field with a 11.834 second lap around the 3/10th mile high banked oval. The five heat races were won by Travis Rutz, Brian Kirkpatrick, Logan Forler, Johnson and Tim Crawley.

The 15-lap C Main transferred the top 4 to the B Main Event. In a race slowed by 6 yellow flags and one red flag, Nick Engberg, finished ahead of Chad Groves, Jason Solwold and Shawn Rice.

Taking top honors in the 20-lap B Main Event was Rick Fauver who led all of the laps. The B-Main transferred 5 spots, with Fauver followed by Jesse Whitney, Travis Rilat, Roger Crockett and Seth Bergman moving to the A Main Event.

With Travis Jacobson leading the first 8 laps and Johnson stalking him, the 20 starters set a blistering pace for the first ten laps. Johnson got by Jacobson for the lead on the 9th circuit and held the top spot for the remaining 22 laps for the win. Behind him in the pack great battles were waged for positions, with points being earned for both finishing position and passing points from your original starting position. At the checkered flag it was Johnson followed by Rutz and Jacobson. National touring drivers Crawley and Paul McMahon.

Earning the starting positions via points earned on the first night were Rutz, McMahon, Fauver, Chad Hillier, Johnson and Crawley.

It was also the first night of the Hornet Nationals at Skagit Speedway as two-time and defending Hornet Nationals champion Cory Swatzina won the opening night. Winning heat races were Ashley Lewellen and Wade Swatzina.
