Jones pitches E-W to victory

MOUNTLAKE TERRACE -Owen Jones would not be denied.

The Edmonds-Woodway pitcher struck out 12 batters and allowed two runs on five hits in a eight-inning 3-2 victory over Mountlake Terrace Wednesday.

Mountlake Terrace coach Andrew Watters was impressed with Jones’ performance in the Wesco South game.

“He’s just tough and made big pitches when he needed to today,” Watters said.

Terrace starter Bill Lechtenberg was no slouch either. Lechtenberg pitched seven innings, allowing two runs on four hits.

Edmonds-Woodway broke the 2-2 tie in the top of the eighth. Drew Lockhart reached on an error, stole second and scored on an RBI single by Kyle Long.

Mountlake Terrace loaded the bases in the bottom of the eighth, but failed to score as a Hawks batter flied out to end the extra-inning game.
