Lake Washington was the site of the April 28 state Junior Bass Championships, crowning winners in the 15-18 year old and 11-14 year old brackets.
The two winners — Dakota Jones of Mead, and Trevor Huff of Camano Island, respectively — will represent the Washington State Bass Federation and the Washington National Guard at this year’s National Guard Junior World Championship on Aug. 9-12 in Gainesville, Ga.
Jones, representing the Inland Empire Junior Bass Club, weighed four fish for 8.85 pounds, just shading three-time state champ Nik Autrey, with 8.05 pounds. Autrey worked a lipless crank bait late in the day but fell just short of another title.
Huff, representing the Washington Bass Association Junior Club, nailed a single good smallmouth, at 4.82 pounds, to take both his division and big-fish honors for the tournament.
