Kamiak hits its stride

MUKILTEO – The Kamiak Knights handed the Jackson Timberwolves their first league loss of the season Tuesday night, slaying the T-wolves 64-57 in a Wesco South battle at Kamiak High School.

Senior-post Rahiti Marere scored 22 points and grabbed seven rebounds leading the Knights to their third straight win.

The Knights (8-5 in league, 9-6 overall) have turned around their season after a dismal start – they began 1-4 – and have now won nine of their last 11 games.

“Rahiti (Marere) has really picked up his game,” Kamiak coach Jeff Leary said.

“He’s getting to the basket and finishing.”

Jackson (12-1, 14-2) had won eight straight before the loss.

Drew Eisinger led the T-wolves with 22 points, but was held scoreless in the third quarter and scored just seven points in the second half.

The other half of Jackson’s dynamic scoring duo, Brian Rucker was held to 10 points.

“Perry played a complete game,” Leary said, referring to senior guard Journey Perry, who had the task of guarding Rucker and also contributed 17 points.
