Kamiak holds off Jackson for Wesco win

MILL CREEK – When you’re fighting for a playoff spot, you can’t be intimidated – especially on your home court.

In a Western Conference South Division girls basketball showdown, visiting Kamiak defeated Jackson 58-53 on Wednesday night.

The loss drops Jackson to 5-3 in league play and 7-3 overall. Kamiak improves to 8-1 and 8-3, and gains a solid hold on second place in the South Division behind Meadowdale.

“In the first half, we didn’t have any intensity,” said Jackson head coach Julie Iverson. “We didn’t come out to play until the second half.”

The Timberwolves might have been a little intimidated in the first half against the Knights, falling behind 28-18.

“We beat ourselves in the first half by committing too many turnovers,” Iverson said.

Jackson actually closed to within six points of Kamiak in the third quarter. The Knights answered with four 3-pointers, including three by Christina Peterson, to push the lead to 20 points.

The T-wolves outscored Kamiak 20-7 in the fourth quarter, but by then the deficit was too great to overcome.

Emily Eisinger led Jackson’s rally with 15 points in the fourth quarter and finished with a game-high 25 points. Kamiak was led by Christina Peterson with 16 points and Emily Jenkins with 14.
