Kamiak in position to claim top 4A seed in South

MUKILTEO – Kamiak clinched a 4A District 1 playoff berth with a 3-1 Wesco South volleyball win over Jackson on Thursday night at Kamiak High School.

The Knights (5-1 division, 9-3 overall) fell 16-25 in the first game, but made adjustments and took the next three 25-14, 25-21, and 25-19.

Kamiak was able to handle first touches well to help execute their offense.

“Our middle of Nicole Bozek and Jordan Keller had huge blocks to change the momentum of the game,” Kamiak coach Debra Crawford said.

Julia Church had 12 kills and four blocks, Keller had nine blocks and Bozek had 11 kills and 11 blocks for Kamiak. Teammates Devin Larson had 25 assists and Melissa Fredericks had 14 digs.

Jackson’s (4-2, 9-3) Brittany Cain had seven kills, Brittany Eskridge had 10 kills and three blocks. Teammates Megan Forbes had six kills and four blocks and Audra Linsenmayer had 26 assists.

Lynnwood 3, Mariner 0: At Lynnwood, Heather McCartney had 30 assists and Kaytlyn Dill added four blocks and 13 digs as the Lynnwood Royals clinched a 3A District 1 playoff berth with a 25-18, 25-15, 25-22 sweep of Mariner. Gabriella Vo had six aces and 10 digs for the Royals (4-3 division, 5-7 overall). Mariner (1-5, 2-10) was led by Shannon Peterson’s 15 assists and Brittany Ruscha’s seven kills.

Mountlake Terrace 3, Meadowdale 2: At Mountlake Terrace, Cassie Hansen had 25 kills to help lead Mountlake Terrace to the Wesco South win. The Hawks (3-3 division, 7-5 overall) lost the first two sets 23-25, 18-25 and won the next three 25-23, 25-22, and 15-7. Katie Cowan had 38 assists and seven aces, Florence Dalos had 10 kills and six blocks and Mara Eberth had 33 digs for Meadowdale (1-5, 3-9).

Edmonds-Woodway 3, Shorewood 0: At Shoreline, Edmonds-Woodway took three straight sets (25-18, 25-10, 25-11) for the Wesco South win. Sharon Kelley had 17 assists and 11 digs, Cailin Fellows had nine aces and Mari Hegyi had eight kills for the Warriors (4-3 division, 7-5 overall), who clinched a 4A District 1 playoff berth. Katie Dapper had five kills and three blocks. Teammate Ari McInnes had 12 assists and Caroline Soules had five kills for Shorewood (0-6, 2-11).

Stanwood 3, Snohomish 1: At Stanwood, Whitney Appleby had 42 assists, Megan Amundson added 21 kills and 23 digs and the Spartans clinched a 4A District 1 playoff berth with a 25-22, 20-25, 25-16, 28-26 win over Snohomish. Krista Van Moos had 13 kills and 23 digs and Leah Titus added 26 digs for the Spartans (5-2 division, 9-3 overall). Snohomish (1-5, 6-6) was led by Stephanie Gausman (20 kills) and Shelbey Souther (12 kills).

Marysville-Pilchuck 3, Cascade 2: At Marysville, Marysville-Pilchuck clinched a 4A District 1 playoff berth with a Wesco North win over Cascade. The Tomahawks (5-1 division, 8-4 overall) won in five sets, 17-25, 25-23, 22-25, 25-16, 15-11. Laura Degerness had eight kills and 13 digs, Kristeen Juarez had 12 kills and Myranda Dudgeon had 10 kills for M-P. Leigh Grebin had 11 kills, Courtney Smith had eight kills and Megan Morris had 14 assists for the Bruins (2-5, 3-9).

Oak Harbor 3, Lake Stevens 2: At Lake Stevens, it came down to the wire, but the Wildcats held on in a Wesco North thriller, 29-27, 25-18, 21-25, 24-26, 16-14 over the Vikings. Claire Thiel led Oak Harbor (4-3 division, 8-4 overall) with 18 kills, while Jennifer Jansen added 16 more. Caitlyn Jones led Lake Stevens (1-6, 1-11) with 24 assists.

Monroe 3, Arlington 0: At Monroe, Monroe (6-0 division, 11-1 overall) remained undefeated in Wesco North play, defeating Arlington 25-18, 25-12, 25-14. The Bearcats were led by Kiley Simmons with five aces and 12 digs, Ky Minoz with 12 kills and Tarah Petrick with 31 assists. Shayna Prause had seven kills and Keesha Carpenter added 12 assists for the Eagles (1-5, 1-11). Arlington’s loss enabled idle Everett to clinch a 3A District 1 playoff berth.

Shorecrest 3, Everett 1: At Everett, Anna Herold had 18 assists and 15 digs, Kerry Clavadetscher had eight kills and 14 digs, Jamie McDonald had seven kills and six blocks and Brittney Harrison had six kills and three aces to lead Shorecrest (12-0 overall) to the non-league win. Lauren Hope had 44 digs, Maureen Frauenholtz had 38 digs and seven kills, Erika Hornyak had 28 digs, Jacqui Bayne had 22 assists and 22 digs and Hayley Taylor had six kills for Everett (6-6).

South Whidbey 3, Granite Falls 1: At South Whidbey, South Whidbey defeated Granite Falls 25-23, 20-25, 25-15, 25-22 in a Cascade Conference match. Caitilynn Larmore had nine kills and Chelsea Backus added 25 assists for the Falcons (6-6 in league, 6-6 overall). Jade Rondorf had 28 digs and Michaela Dudder added 22 kills and five blocks for the Tigers (5-7, 5-7).

Archbishop Murphy 3, Lakewood 0: At Lakewood, Archbishop Murphy (10-2 league, 10-3 overall) got the sweep, defeating Lakewood, 25-14, 25- 23, 25-20. Brienne Stewart led the Cougars (3-9, 4-9) with 12 assists and was 10-for-10 serving, while Kiliya Kibitskaya chimed in defensively with 10 digs as well as four kills. For Archbishop Murphy, Rachel Shober had five kills, eight aces, seven digs and two blocks; Megan Robinson had 10 kills, and Allie Gotz had 16 digs.

King’s 3, Sultan 0: At Shoreline, King’s picked up a Cascade Conference sweep over Sultan (0-13 in league, 0-14 overall), 25-8, 25-10, 25-14 to remain unbeaten. Kimberly Mayhle led the Knights (12-0) with 11 kills and Kailey Trautmann added 12 kills, 12 digs and seven assists. For Sultan, Jessica Hoiland had 10 digs and Olivia Chanthamalay had seven digs.

Cedarcrest 3, Coupeville 0: At Duvall, Cedarcrest clinched a trip to the 2A District 1 playoffs, beating Coupeville 25-23, 25-19, 25-20 in the Cascade Conference match. Betsy Anderson led Cedarcrest with four aces and seven kills. Teammates Amber Shields added three aces, 17 assists and 10 digs and Ashley Owen had 14 digs for the Red Wolves (9-4 league and overall). Sarah Burgoyne had five kills and Kayla Lawson added eight assists for Coupeville.
