Kamiak keeps pace in Wesco South

EDMONDS – His team fell behind in part because of forfeits, but Nate Arnold of Edmonds-Woodway didn’t concede an inch in his meet-ending triumph.

In the last match of the night, Arnold defeated Joe Huss of Kamiak, 2-1 in double overtime at 275 pounds, but the Knights still upended the Warriors 36-21 in a Western Conference South Division wrestling battle Tuesday night at Edmonds-Woodway High School.

Tied 1-1 at the end of regulation, neither wrestler scored in the first extra period. Following a coin flip won by E-W (4-3 in league, 4-4 overall), Arnold chose the down position and quickly executed an escape move for the winning point.

In the second period, Huss had an escape to score his point. Arnold got his first point in the third period to tie the match.

Chris Munoz (160) had a major decision, 13-2, for Kamiak (6-0, 9-3). At 152, Tyler Cannon won by technical fall, 18-1 for the Knights.

E-W surrendered three forfeits, including the first two matches of the meet.

At 130, David Alfi helped dig the Warriors out of a hole by stopping Eric Morton 7-5 in overtime.

Meadowdale 56, Lynnwood 15: Meadowdale tallied seven pins on senior night, the first coming from senior R.J. Powers in the first match in just 11 seconds at 189 pounds. Andres Yen, the Mavs only other senior, also had a pin (160). Kyle Mingo (135) and Tesir Alhussaini (145) had pins to lead Lynnwood in the Wesco South meet.
