Kamiak senior three-sport athlete Ally de la Cruz was awarded a $1,000 scholarship as a finalist in the WIAA’s Smart Choices Scholarship Program.
The annual program recognizes graduating seniors for excellence in athletics/activities, academics, leadership and community service throughout their high school careers.
The program awards $5,000 scholarships to one male and one female winner. It also recognizes an additional four male and four female finalists.
de la Cruz, a four-time state placer in wrestling, won the girls 155-pound state title in 2017.
She also has competed on Kamiak’s track and field and swim teams all four years. de la Cruz placed sixth in the 2016 state decathlon and took second place in the pole vault last Friday at the 4A Northwest District track and field championships.
