Kamiak wins its 8th straight match

MUKILTEO — When it comes to volleyball, the Kamiak Knights have the Monroe Bearcats’ number.

Kamiak defeated Monroe for the fourth consecutive time Tuesday, taking three out of four from the Bearcats and posting a 25-20, 17-25, 25-19, 25-17 non-conference victory at Kamiak High School.

Kamiak (8-1 overall) continued its success over Wesco North power Monroe (7-2) by handing the Bearcats their second loss of the season.

Both losses have come at the hands of the Knights.

Setter Devin Larson led Kamiak with 37 assists and Knights head coach Debra Crawford said, “(Larson) dispersed the ball really well. We were fortunate to have many weapons at the net.”

Two of those weapons were Julia Church (11 kills and 12 digs) and Jordan Keller (six blocks), who along with Bailey Jones tried to contain Monroe’s Kylin Munoz.

“It took us awhile to adjust to her but once we made the adjustment we were able to either block or dig her up. (Munoz) was on fire the first couple of games,” Crawford said.

Munoz finished with 18 kills and Kaitlyn Drew added 32 assists.

Monroe was looking to avenge a September 9 loss to the Knights.
