Keith Coleman, an assistant pro and head superintendent at Mukilteo’s Harbour Pointe Golf Course, jumped to the top of the leaderboard on Monday with a 5-under-par 66 for the opening-round lead of the Washington Open golf tournament at Glendale Country Club in Bellevue.
Coleman, who has a two-stroke lead, will be trying for his third Washington Open title when the 54-hole tournament resumes today and concludes on Wednesday. He also won in 1997 and 2004.
Tied for second place after the first round are Caleb Kraus of The Golf Club at Echo Falls in Snohomish, Eric Briggs of Auburn’s Washington National Golf Club and 1975 champion Fred Haney of The Reserve Vineyards and Golf Club in Aloha, Ore. They shot 68s.
