ESPN is reporting that Arizona State quarterback Sam Keller has decided to transfer to Nebraska and will be released from his scholarship.
Keller was named the Sun Devils’ starting quarterback on Friday but coach Dirk Koetter changed his mind on Sunday and named Rudy Carpenter the starter after several players apparently approached Koetter and told him they preferred Carpenter. Keller then was excused from Sunday’s practice and began looking for a place to transfer.
The ESPN story says Keller chose Nebraska over Louisville and UTEP, and he would replace Zac Taylor in 2007 as the starter after Taylor’s eligibility expires. Keller will have to redshirt this season.
