Kevin Davis back as Silvertips prep for final preseason games

The Tips conclude the preseason with a home-and-home this weekend with the Seattle Thunderbirds.

But Thursday they received some good news as overage defenseman Kevin Davis returned from the Minnesota Wild rookie camp.

Carter Hart and Patrick Bajkov remain away at NHL camps, but Davis was back from Traverse City, Michigan, where the Wild prospects played four games against other NHL prospects teams.

The Wild prospects went 2-2 as Davis registered an assist.

“It was a great opportunity to be a part of,” Davis said. “I was thankful for the opportunity the Minnesota Wild gave me and it was nice to play against NHL-ready guys that are battling for spots already.”

Everett’s first-round pick in the 2012 bantam draft, Davis had a breakout season last year with nine goals and 50 assists while providing the same defensive zone performances he displayed in previous seasons.

He’s no doubt hoping to perform similarly in his overage season and parlay that into a professional contract. Davis remains on Minnesota’s radar.

“At the exit interview they just said ‘We’ll be watching you,’” he said. “Now that I’m back here my focus is here… There were a whole bunch of scouts (in Traverse City), so to get my name out there is always good.”
