It’s official, defenseman Tyler Kieffer has signed with the Tips and is expected to join the team sometime this weekend. The 1989-born Minnesota native, who had been playing for the USHL’s Lincoln Stars, is a stay-at-home defenseman. Kieffer’s addition gives Everett eight d-men on the roster.
I’ll see if I can track down some more info on Kieffer before tonight’s game. However, if I remeber correctly, GM Doug Soetaert is out of town this weekend, so info may be hard to come by. But we’ll see what I can turn up.

UPDATE 6:45 p.m.
OK, I’ve got some more information about Kieffer. Apparently he’s here at KeyArena, but he’s not playing tonight and probably won’t play tomorrow at home against Moose Jaw. Although he’s an undrafted 18-year-old, I’m told he was listed by the NHL Central Scouting Bureau for the past draft and projected as a sixth rounder, and supposedly the Tips were monitoring him for some time. He’s described as a good open-ice hitter, but his acquisition may have more impact next season than this season.
