King’s bags share of league championship

SULTAN — King’s continued its reign over the Cascade Conference with a 3-0 victory against Sultan Thursday.

With two matches remaining in the regular season, the Knights are guaranteed at least a tie for first place.

Anna Cesari (27 assists) and Jordan Irish (14 kills) were key players in King’s 25-10, 25-11, 25-13 victory.

Sultan (0-12 overall) was unable to overcome King’s (12-0), although Sultan coach Craig Bekins emphasized that the Turks tried their best.

“I was proud of my girls,” Bekins said. “They played hard.”

Archbishop Murphy 3, Lakewood 1: At Everett, six Archbishop Murphy seniors played key roles in the Wildcats’ 25-17, 25-11, 19-25, 25-17 Cascade Conference victory over Lakewood (4-8 in league, 5-8 overall). Shannon Hoban (six kills), Michelle Grome (13 digs, four aces) and Patti Reeves (13 assists, seven digs) contributed to Archbishop Murphy’s (10-2 league and overall) win. Rachel Hyatt (21 assists, three kills, two aces), Erica Frahm (six kills, three blocks) and Megan Robinson (11 kills, five digs and three aces) rounded out the Wildcat upperclassmen. For Lakewood, Peyton Mizell had 24 assists, Amanda Gregory had eight kills and Liliya Kibiitskaya had nine kills and eight digs.

Cedarcrest 3, Coupeville 0: At Coupeville, Kristen McKinlay had seven kills and Betsy Anderson had six service aces to lead Cedarcrest (9-3 in league and overall) to the 25-15, 25-13, 25-14 Cascade Conference victory over Coupeville (2-10, 2-11). Nikki Griffin (seven kills) and Megan Monroe (eight digs) were the leading players for Coupeville.

Granite Falls 3, South Whidbey 2: At Granite Falls, Michaela Dudder recorded 23 kills, 17 digs and three blocks for Granite Falls (7-5 league and overall) as the Tigers narrowly beat South Whidbey (4-8, 4-8) in a Cascade Conference match. Brennan Johnson (12 digs) and Shelby Spencer (35 assists) contributed to Granite Falls’ (25-20, 22-25, 23-25, 26-24, 16-14) win.

Stanwood at Snohomish postponed: The Wesco North match was rescheduled for 6 p.m. tonight.

Monroe 3, Arlington 0: At Arlington, Monroe’s Kelsie Brennan had 15 kills to lead Monroe to the 25-18, 25-11, 25-13 Wesco North victory. Jerrika Groeneweg added 12 digs and Kaitlyn Drew had 22 assists for Monroe (6-0 in league 10-2 overall). Kelcie Czaban had 10 assists and Breanna Covey had seven blocks for Arlington (0-6, 0-12).

Oak Harbor 3, Lake Stevens 0: At Oak Harbor, led by Becca Wheeler (31 assists), Oak Harbor swept the Wesco North match 25-15, 25-16, 25-22 against Lake Stevens (2-4 in league, 3-8 overall). Jennifer Jansen and Jessica Muzzall combined for 23 blocks to keep the Wildcats (6-0, 10-1) undefeated in the Wesco North.

Marysville-Pilchuck 3, Cascade 2: At Everett, Marysville-Pilchuck (5-1 in league, 9-3 overall) won a close Wesco North match against Cascade, 25-21, 21-25, 22-25, 25-21, 15-12. Jadelyn Thompson had 31 digs and April Bobadilla had 36 assists for the Tomahawks. Kristin Villanueva recorded 20 digs for Cascade (1-6, 1-11).

Mariner 3, Lynnwood 0: At Everett, Shannon Peterson had 17 assists and nine digs and teammate Jessica Gazoronskiy had seven kills and 10 digs to lead Mariner (3-3 in league, 5-5 overall) to the 25-20, 25-16, 25-21 Wesco South victory. Kaylyn Dill had 12 kills for Lynnwood (1-6, 2-10).

Edmonds-Woodway 3, Shorewood 0: At Edmonds, Erin Lauber had 10 kills, Leigh Fishback had 27 assists and Alex Storino had 17 digs to lead the Warriors to the 27-25, 25-11, 25-22 Wesco South victory. Shorewood’s Caroline Soules had 10 kills and so did Katie Dapper. Shorewood fell to 1-5 in league, 2-9 overall. Edmonds-Woodway improved to 6-1 in league and 10-2 overall.

Meadowdale 3, Mountlake Terrace 0: At Lynnwood, Katie Cowan had 32 assists and nine digs in Meadowdale’s 25-22, 25-12, 25-19 Wesco South victory against Mountlake Terrace (2-4 in league, 5-7 overall). Brianna Dyson had 11 kills for Meadowdale (2-4, 5-6). Christina Jensen led the Hawks with 31 assists.

Kamiak 3, Jackson 0: At Mill Creek, Julia Church had 16 kills to lead Kamiak (6-0 in league, 11-1 overall) to the 25-17, 25-16, 25-19 Wesco South victory. Angelina Rich had eight kills and seven digs for Jackson (3-3, 5-7).

Shorecrest 3, Everett 0: At Shoreline, Anna Herold had 27 assists and 12 digs to lead Shorecrest (10-2 overall) to the 25-18, 25-12, 25-13 non-league victory. Ally Lund had 10 digs for Everett (5-7).

Darrington 3, Mt. Vernon Christian 0: At Darrington, freshman middle hitter Hailey Wales had 11 kills and four service aces, Mandy Powell had 27 assists and 21 digs and Maggie Wicken had five kills and four blocks to lead Darrington (9-2 league, 10-3 overall) to a 25-10, 25-12, 25-17 Northwest 1A/2B League win over Mt. Vernon Christian (1-8, 1-8).

North Sound Christian 3, Highland Christian 2: At Arlington, Maylisa Chung had 16 assists and eight aces to lead North Sound Christian (7-1 in league 8-3 overall) to the Northwest 1B victory over Highland Christian (5-5, 5-5).
