YAKIMA, Wash. — Brett Clyde scored a game-high 22 points, and third-ranked Connell sank six of eight free throws down the stretch to upend second-ranked King’s 59-55 Wednesday in the Class 1A boys state tournament.
Clyde made 8 of 16 shots, including 3 of 7 3-point attempts. Teammates Spencer Hadley had 12 points and Lance Whitney added 11.
The Eagles (21-3) took the lead for good midway through the first quarter, and eventually built a 14-point lead in the third period before King’s made a slight run. The Knights (20-6) never got closer than the final score.
Dylan O’Neil sparked King’s with 19 points and 16 rebounds, and Nick Hardy and Alex Mar each had 11 points. Bryan Ayers added four assists and three steals.
