YAKIMA — Matt Kerns scored 16 points, and Vashon beat King’s 65-46 on Saturday for third place in the Class 1A boys state tournament.
Alex Wegner added 15 points and John Gage 14 for the Pirates (23-4), who led 24-18 at halftime and blew the game open with a 12-0 run early in the third quarter.
Vashon, which beat King’s in last year’s state championship game, again in the District 1 title game last month and in a Martin Luther King Day game, earned its fourth trophy in six state trips.
Ryan Hoff scored 24 points for King’s (21-8).
Vashon shot 73 percent (11-for-15) in the second half and 62 percent (18-for-29) for the game. King’s hit just 31 percent (18-for-59) of its shots.
