YAKIMA — The King’s boys basketball team posted a 59-57 overtime win over Mount Baker on Friday in a 1A Hardwood Classic consolation game at the Yakima SunDome to keep its season alive.
Taylor Schoenfeld’s jumper with 3 minutes, 37 seconds left in the extra session gave the Knights a two-point lead, and a layup by Elyon Zevenbergen with 2:46 remaining put King’s up 59-55. A layup by Kaleb Bass with 1:56 left cut the Knights’ deficit to two, but the Mountaineers couldn’t get their final three shot attempts to fall.
The game marked the fourth time that the two teams matched up in postseason play. They split two games in 1A Northwest District tournament play, and the Knights posted a 72-58 win in a 1A District 1/2 tournament contest.
King’s will play Royal at 8 a.m. Saturday in a consolation game, with the winner placing fourth and the loser sixth.
