King’s falls just short of making 1A state playoffs

SHORELINE – The King’s Knights fell just short of advancing to the Class 1A state tournament in a winner-to-state, loser-out tri-district game, losing 12-10 against Cascade Christian Tuesday night at Shoreline Stadium.

With the victory, Cascade Christian (9-2) will play Castle Rock in a first-round state game on Saturday.

“This was a very well matched game,” King’s assistant coach Sam Roach said.

King’s (4-7) wound up out-gaining Cascade Christian by just 1 total yard, 220-219.

With the Knights holding a 10-6 lead late in the third quarter, Charlie Velling of Cascade Christian burst through the line for a 64-yard touchdown run to give his team the lead for good. Velling ended the game with 125 yards on 18 carries.

King’s was led by Spencer Clark (94 yards, 23 carries) and quarterback Greg Uhrich, who was 7-for-14 passing for 79 yards and a touchdown.

“We (King’s) were in Cascade Christian territory most of the second half, but their defense was good tonight and stopped us.” Roach said.
