Kings’ Denis Gauthier suspended 2 games
TORONTO — The NHL suspended Los Angeles Kings defenseman Denis Gauthier for two games without pay Saturday.
The punishment stems from a confrontation midway through the third period in last Thursday’s 4-2 loss to the San Jose Sharks. Gauthier made contact with Sharks forward Patrick Marleau on an icing play. Gauthier was assessed a minor penalty for boarding. Marleau wasn’t injured.
Gauthier will forfeit $22,580 and will be eligible to return for Wednesday’s game against Philadelphia.
Earlier this month, Gauthier sat out five games after hitting Montreal Canadiens defenseman Josh Gorges with an elbow to the head.
