King’s girls win Chinook tourney

SEATAC – The King’s girls basketball team, led by Danielle Mosiman’s eight points and 14 rebounds, defeated Life Christian 41-28 to win the Chinook League Tournament on Thursday night.

The Lady Knights were in control from the beginning, leading 12-4 after the first quarter, and 26-6 at halftime.

King’s advances to the Tri-District Tournament. The Lady Knights will face Coupeville at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 20 at Mountlake Terrace High School.

Darrington 70, Orcas Island 61: Seniors Matt Koch and Evan Smith led the Loggers to victory in the non-league regular season finale. Smith scored a game-high 21 points and grabbed six rebounds, while Koch added 15 points and eight rebounds in a game that was postponed due to snow.

Wesco South Sectional Championships: At Mukilteo, Tony Dennis of Edmonds-Woodway was the top finisher in two events during the preliminary heats at the Kamiak High School swimming pool on Thursday. Dennis swam state-qualifying times in both 200-yard freestyle and the 500-yard freestyle events. Shorewood junior Garrett Gentling had a pair of state-qualifying times also, in the 200 individual medley and 100 backstroke. Diving is scheduled for today, with the final heats running all day Saturday.

Wesco North Sectional Championships: At Marysville, Andy Ferguson, a Snohomish High School senior, was the first of four finishers in the 100-yard butterfly event to swim a state-qualifying time during the preliminary heats on Thursday at the Marysville-Pilchuck pool. Oak Harbor’s Jason Hunter and Kyle Ciminski, and Dan Shurtz of Snohomish also were under the 56. 50-second state-qualifying standard. Ciminski led a trio of state-qualifiers in the 100 breaststroke, finishing just ahead of Junya Matsuzaki of Lake Stevens and Francis Bernauer of Snohomish. Final heats are Saturday.
