Several King’s athletes performed well at a pair of national indoor track and field meets last weekend.
Kimberly Beard, an All-American hammer thrower, participated at Nike Nationals in New York on Friday and Boston’s New Balance Nationals on Sunday. The junior from Mukilteo placed fifth in the championship division weight throw event for Get Strong First Track Club on Friday with a mark of 53 feet, 11.25 inches.
Beard hit the road Friday night to try a weight throw double at a meet that boasted 10 of the best throwers in the US and Canada. Kimberly powered a personal best of 56 feet on her opening throw that stood up for a fourth-place finish from a seeding of eighth. The mark also places her six inches from the state record in the event, held by former King’s athlete Adrianna Coleman, now throwing for the University of California. Beard was one of only two athletes to pull off a successful double All-America qualification in the weight throw at the two meets.
Fellow King’s athlete Kaelynn Bahnmiller placed second in the Emerging Elite division weight throw on Thursday at Nike Nationals throwing for Seattle Master’s Athletic Club with a mark of 45-9.75. Jeshua Singletary participated in two events, including a second-place finish with the club GLS Speed in the 800-meter championship club relay on Friday. The time of 1:26.77 ranks them ninth nationally.
