Lacrosse players collect postseason honors

Nine athletes from Snohomish County were named last week to the 11-member Washington High School Boys Lacrosse Association’s 2013 Division II All-Cascade Conference team.

The group included five players from the Everett Lacrosse Club: senior Ian Strong (attack), senior Jared Hawkins (midfield) and sophomore Brad Strong (goalkeeper), all from Jackson High School, senior Jeremy Blas (defense) from Everett High School, and junior Jameson Beretta (defense), who is home schooled.

Also honored were two players from the Stanwood team — freshman Jack Delich from Stanwood High School and senior midfielder Frank Medlicott from Archbishop Murphy —— and two from Meadowdale, junior midfielder Jordan Tindall and junior defenseman Niko May,

Meanwhile, Davyd Powell of Snohomish and Nick Gregory of Kamiak were named last week to the association’s 2013 Division I all-state third team.

Powell, a junior, is a defenseman. Gregory, a senior, is a goalkeeper.

Girls lacrosse players named all-state

Three players from the Snohomish Lacrosse Club were named last week to the Washington High School Girls Lacrosse Association’s 2013 All-State second team.

Honored were senior Hanna Dalrymple, and juniors Kayla Petz and Hailey Nyquist. Dalrymple is a midfielder, Petz plays attack and Nyquist is a defender.

Mardesich throws perfect game

Nick Mardesich of North Everett Little League’s VFW baseball team threw a perfect game Sunday in a 4-0 victory over the Cardinals of Mill Creek at the 2013 Marysville Strawberry Tournament at Rudy Wright Memorial Field.

The tournament, which continues through June 15, is for Little League baseball teams (ages 11-12) that did not qualify for the county’s Tournament of Champions.

Mardesich struck out 11 of the 18 batters he faced. He needed just 63 pitches to record the complete game.

The perfect game was Mardesich’s fourth no-hitter of the season.

Spitfires win hockey tournament

The Seattle Spitfires, a U-12 boys hockey team that included three players from Snohomish County, won the B.C. Memorial Holiday Classic held May 24-26 in Burnaby, British Columbia.

The Spitfires, who play their home games at the Lynnwood Ice Center, defeated the Hollyburn Huskies, 2-1, in the championship game.

Tynan Peacock of Snohomish and Taylor McCall of Seattle scored for the Spitfires in the title game. The team went 4-1 in the tournament of 16 teams from Washington and British Columbia.

Other members of the Spitfires are Cameron Jennings of Mukilteo, Hunter Campbell of Everett, Sam Eberts of Issaquah, Pete Yzerman of Cloverdale, B.C., and J.P. Tremblay, Miles Seguin, Rafael Osuna, Brendan Lee, Ryan Day, Eric Pridovich, Landen Shaw and Shane Lynette of Seattle.

Sutter 14th at nationals

Brian Sutter, a 2009 graduate of Monroe High School, placed 14th in the 5,000-meter race at the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships held May 23-25 in Lacrosse, Wis. Competing for Claremont McKenna College, Sutter completed the race in 14 minutes, 46.03 seconds.
