COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Raef LaFrentz had 19 points and 11 rebounds and Voshon Lenard added 16 points as the Denver Nuggets opened their preseason with a 94-92 victory over the Seattle SuperSonics on Thursday night.
Brent Barry had 21 points and seven rebounds for Seattle (1-1), while Jamal Kendrick added 13 points.
Lenard, who had 10 points in the first half, hit two 3-pointers as the Nuggets outscored Seattle 21-15 over the final 10:22 of the second quarter to take a 46-32 halftime lead.
Barry drew the Sonics within 87-82 with a 3-pointer with 2:26 left and he added another 3 with 3.5 seconds remaining to make it 93-92.
Lenard made one of two free throws with 1.9 seconds left to give the Nuggets a two-point lead. After a timeout, Cedric Ceballos preserved the win by blocking a 25-foot jump shot by Vladimir Radmanovic at the buzzer.
