The 16U A Lake Breeze didn’t come home from Illinois with a national title, but the Lake Stevens-based softball team did return as a proud bunch after beating some of the best teams in the nation.

The Lake Breeze was forced out of the national tournament in Normal, Ill., by the eventual runner-up, the Phoenix Storm, by a score of 4-1.

Pitcher Tracie Adix, who will be a junior at Edmonds-Woodway High School this year, pitched three consecutive shutouts in the tourney.

With a tournament record of 5-2, the Breeze (44-15-2 overall) finished tied for 13th place – improving on last season’s finish – at one of the nation’s toughest tournaments, one that featured more than 96 teams from 29 states.

Members of the team include: Gina Carbonatto, Kristi Leiter, Whitney Cochran and Lindsey Freitig of Lake Stevens High School; Chelsea Adams of Cascade; Adix and Alana Schutt of Edmonds-Woodway; Jill Bruins of Klahowya Secondary School; Tawnya Guthrie of Thomas Jefferson; Dani Leyellier of Sedro-Woolley; Tiffany McDonald and Lisa Hill of North Mason; and Tristin Rea of Kamiak. The team is coached by Margo Leiter, who is also the varsity fastpitch coach at Lake Stevens High.

Mill Creek team finishes third in state: The Mill Creek 11-12-year-old girls Majors fastpitch team took third place in the state tournament held in Kirkland last month.

In their opening game vs. District 8 champion Woodinville, Morgan Frost pitched well and Mill Creek won 8-4. In their second-round game against District 10 champ Kent, Mill Creek used strong baserunning and Ashley Todd’s solid pitching for a 4-3 win. Against District 9 champ Kirkland, the eventual state champion, Mill Creek lost 7-0. They followed that up with a 5-4 loss against Kent.

Team members include Kristin Cole, April Donaldson, Frost, Brittany Frounfelter, Kelsey Geddes, Kaitlin Jackman, Kara Jondal, Jenna Mohrweis, Tamara Priebe, Sam Shafer, Kimberly Strong, Todd and Alyssa White.

Snohomish United 88 repeat: The Snohomish United 88 girls U-13 soccer team captured the championship at the Lake Stevens Soccer Bash tournament for the second season in a row, defeating the Medina Kombat in the title game Aug. 5.

Goalkeepers Jessica Eberth and Lauren Jelinek held their opponents to only two goals in the four-day tournament. Other members of the victorious team are: Brittany Chase, Ashley Corral, Liz Gross, Lauren Hansen, Ashley Mincks, Nicole Pederson, Roxanne Pederson, Gillian Prentice, Kara Sporrong, Lacey Thompson, Kristin Weakly, Brittany Willis and Brittany Wolcott. The team is coached by Brian Porier.

Force move to head of Class: The Marysville Force U-14 select soccer team beat the Eastside White on Sunday to win the Bellingham Remlin Class tournament. Samantha Thomas and Alyssa Lachner provided the winning goals for the Force. The team is coached by Gary Riozzi of Marysville.
