Lake Stevens comes back to beat Monroe

MONROE – Lake Stevens won four straight matches after falling behind 3-0 to defeat Monroe 4-3 in Western Conference North boys tennis action Monday.

Lake Stevens (8-3) holds a one-game lead over Cascade (7-4) for third place in the division. Monroe, which entered the game tied with Oak Harbor for fifth place, dropped to 5-7.

After losing three singles matches, Lake Stevens was on the verge of being swept. But Ryan Arndt preserved the Vikings’ chances by winning 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1 singles.

Lake Stevens, which won at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles, completed the come-behind victory with a 6-3, 7-6, 7-1 victory by the No. 2 doubles tandem of Jacob Strong and Grant Kottsick.

“We played much better this time around,” Monroe coach Tim Langley said. “We lost to them 5-2 the first time we played.”

King’s 3, Tacoma Baptist 0: At Tacoma, Ashley Strecker had 22 assists to lead King’s (5-1, 5-3) to a 25-7, 25-4, 25-17 victory over Chinoock League opponent Tacoma Baptist (0-6).
