Herald staff

LAKE STEVENS – Lake Stevens withstood a second-half charge from Monroe to win a Wesern Conference North Division game at Lake Stevens.

Lake Stevens had a 10-point lead with two minutes to play. Kaylee Kolrud had two 3-point baskets for Monroe to close the gap.

Behind three points with 30 seconds to play, Monroe had a final shot at the buzzer, but missed a 3-point try and Karissa Barnes’ put-back basket came as time expired.

“This was a physical and hard played game by both teams,” said Lake Stevens Head Coach Steve Berg. “Monroe fought back at the end, but we were able to hang on.”

Lake Stevens junior guard, Gina Carbonatto, had a good all around game with 11 points, six rebounds, five assists and two assists.

Lake Stevens took a 10-point lead after the first quarter and had a 12-point lead at halftime. Monroe used a full court trap to get back into the game.
