Lake Stevens hands Monroe its first loss

MONROE —Score a run every other inning and you’re bound to have a decent game. Hold the opposition to one run and you’ll have an even better one.

That’s what the Lake Stevens High School fastpitch softball team did Wednesday in beating previously undefeated Monroe 9-1 in a Western Conference North game.

"They pecked away at us," Monroe coach Curt Eskeback said.

Sarah Froman put the Vikings ahead to stay with a two-run single in the first inning. "She (Froman) took a pitch down the middle and nailed it," Eskeback said of the hit.

Froman finished with three runs batted in.

Lake Stevens’ pitcher Krista Crosson threw a complete game, striking out four and allowing just three hits.

Whitney Cochran broke the game open in the fifth with an RBI double. Cochran also scored two runs and Allison Hall scored three times and added a triple for Lake Stevens.

Monroe scored its lone run in the fourth when Crystal Fairfax singled home Katie Dale.

"This was our first loss, we’re going to bounce back," Eskeback said.
