ARLINGTON – Lake Stevens opened its Wesco North campaign with a 7-0 win over Arlington Tuesday.
Lake Stevens’ Craig Miller defeated Jared Checkeye, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 1 singles.
Checkeye, a junior, is returning at No. 1 singles for the Eagles.
“He’s going to run into some tough opposition,” Arlington coach Ben Mendro said. “Lake Stevens is one of the top teams in the league.”
Lake Stevens finished third behind Snohomish and Stanwood last season.
Arlington, winless last year, is a young team, Mendro said. The Eagles have four seniors on its 10-man varsity.
