Lake Stevens wins 14 of 18 events in Wesco North meet

STANWOOD – Lake Stevens dominated a Wesco North girls track meet at Stanwood Thursday, winning 14 of the 18 events.

The Vikings scored 105 points to double up rivals Stanwood (44) and Snohomish (40).

“Lake Stevens has an excellent track team,” Stanwood coach Paul Johnson said. “The girls are very strong.”

Lake Stevens won all three relays. The Vikings’ Brittany Aanstad won the javelin and tied for first with Snohomish’s Laura Bulander in the pole vault. Lake Stevens’ Brandi Edwards won both hurdles races.

Arlington 75, Cascade 68.5, Monroe 44.5: Brooklyn Holton won the long jump (15 feet, 9 inches) and triple jump (34-4) for Arlington in the Wesco North meet. Sophomore Nicole Pederson won the 200-meter sprint (27.7) and was on the winning 800 relay team. Her twin, Roxanne Pederson, won the 400 (1:03).

Marysville-Pilchuck 101, Oak Harbor 63, Mount Vernon 24: Marysville-Pilchuck’s Betsy Ware picked up first place honors in the 100-meter hurdles, the long jump and the triple jump to lead the Tomahawks to victory in the Wesco North meet.

Jackson 98, Shorewood 94.5, Kamiak 52.5, Everett 31: Shorewood won eight of 18 events but Jackson displayed superior depth (six winners and seven runners-up) to claim the Western Conference South Division meet at Everett Memorial Stadium. Freshman Kristi Kingma led Jackson with first-place performances in the 100- (13.66 seconds) and 400-meter dashes (1:00.51) and a second-place effort in the 200 (28.0). Kingma excels in soccer, basketball and track for the Timberwolves. “She’s phenomenal,” Jackson coach Eric Hruschka said. “She’s got a lot on her plate.”

Edmonds-Woodway 81, Shorecrest 63, Mountlake Terrace 42: Kate Southcote-Want won the 800- and 3,200-meter races to help Edmonds-Woodway finish first in the Wesco South meet. Mountlake Terrace’s Bianca Rowland also won two events, the 100 and shot put.
