Lakewood edges Sultan for boys soccer win

LAKEWOOD -The Lakewood boys soccer team battled out a 2-1 victory over Sultan in Cascade Conference action Monday at Lakewood High School.

Serjay Shevchuck, assisted by Quinton Baldwin, scored the first goal to put the Cougars up 1-0 going into halftime.

Sultan tied the score 1-1 in the second half when A.J. Gonzales headed in a free kick from six yards out.

“It was a good hard-fought game from both teams,” Lakewood coach Vaughn Vandelac said.

Logan Throndsen scored the game-winning goal in the second half and Lakewood held off a vicious attack by the Turks in the final five minutes to seal the victory.
