The final National Letter of Intent signing day of the 2011-12 season was Wednesday and a few local athletes signed on the dotted line, including Stanwood’s girls tennis player Megan Lalone.
LaLone signed her letter to attend Boise State at Stanwood’s Performing Arts Center on Wednesday in front of a crowd of 50 to 60 friends and family.
“It was fun to have everybody there,” LaLone said of the ceremony, which she said was put together by Spartans tennis coach Trudi Abrams and athletic director Tom Wilfong.
LaLone, who verbally committed to play for the Broncos in September, said she never wavered in her commitment and that Boise is the “perfect place” for her.
“I can’t wait to get there and get started,” LaLone said of Boise. “It’s really exciting to be part of the family.”
LaLone, the defending 4A state runner-up singles player, has played a number of doubles matches in the early part of this season in preparation for college, where she expects to play a lot of doubles.
Lynnwood baseball player Blake Lord signed his letter of intent during a ceremony in front of teammates and family at the Lynnwood H.S. library Wednesday night. Lord signed to play baseball at Saint Martin’s next year.
“I’m just relieved that it’s over,” Lord said. “(Saint Martin’s) really fits me well. It’s close enough to home but also far enough that I can be independent.”
Lord, who led Wesco 3A in passing as the Royals quarterback in the fall, received an offer to play football and baseball at University of Puget Sound but opted to sign with SMU for just baseball.
Here’s a list of other local athletes who signed: Kamiak’s Erin Langdon (track and field-Javelin, University of Great Falls); Monroe’s Jordan Moore (football, track and field, Dickinson State); Lake Stevens’ Kelsey Fallstrom (girls swimming, Delta State-Miss.) and Cody Tupen (football, Pacific Lutheran University); Stanwood’s Shawna Hochstetler (softball, University of Akron).
Meadowdale girls basketball player Margreet Barhoum, an All-Area first team selection who led Wesco in scoring, announced Tuesday on Twitter that she committed to play at Montana State.
“Ladies and gentleman…I’M A BOBCAT!!!!!!! GO Montana State!!!!!!!!!!” Barhoum wrote on Twitter Wednesday night.
She said she hopes to sign an official letter of intent some time next week.
