Landon DuPont receives WHL Rookie of the Week honors

The Everett Silvertips’ defenseman tallied four assists last week.

The Everett Silvertips announced the Western Hockey League (WHL) selected defenseman Landon DuPont as the WHL Rookie of the Week for the week ending Sept. 29.

DuPont earned three assists and a +4 rating spanning the Silvertips’ first two games, which led all rookies in assists and put him tied for the most points.

DuPont recorded his first assist as a Silvertip on Carter Bear’s goal in the 4-3 home season-opening loss to Vancouver on Sept. 21. He tallied two more in the 8-2 win against Portland on Sept. 28 and his fourth overall in the 6-3 victory versus Kelowna on Sept. 29.

The 15-year-old, 5-foot-11 right hander was selected as the first pick in the first round of the 2024 WHL Prospects Draft.

According to the press release, DuPont is the “first defenseman and second skater — following former Regina Pats star and reigning NHL Rookie of the Year Connor Bedard — to receive exceptional status.

The Silvertips (2-1) rest at No. 6 in the Western Conference standings. Beginning Oct. 4, Everett will spend time in Canada and Oregon for seven games before returning to face Wenatchee at Angel of the Winds Arena on Oct. 23.
