TOPEKA, Kan. — Larry Pegram won the first AMA Pro American Superbike race at Heartland Park Topeka since 1991, leading all 20 laps Saturday in his Ducati 1098R for his second victory of the season.
“For me it’s just validation,” Pegram said. “Here we beat everybody again and I proved to myself that I can win at this level, because I had lost a lot of confidence over the years riding bikes that weren’t capable of winning.”
Also the winner this year at Road America in Wisconsin, Pegram finished 2.184 seconds ahead of Yamaha’s Ben Bostrom in the first race of the weekend doubleheader. Suzuki’s Blake Young was third.
In the Daytona SportBike race, Danny Eslick took the points lead with his sixth victory of the year.
