EVERETT — The Everett AquaSox fell just short of a miraculous comeback in a 6-5 loss to the Vancouver Canadians on Saturday night at Funko Field.
Trailing by four with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, Mike Salvatore ripped a three-run double to pull the AquaSox to within a run. But with the tying run on second base, Alberto Rodriguez flew out to left field to end the threat and the game.
Addison Barger homered in a three-run third inning that staked the Canadians to a 4-1 lead.
The teams traded runs in the fifth before Vancouver (37-39) added an insurance run in the top of the ninth on an RBI double from Zach Britton.
Salvatore finished the game 2-for-4 with four RBI and Noelvi Marte went 2-for-3 with two walks and two runs scored for the AquaSox.
Juan Mercedes started on the mound for Everett (39-40) and allowed five runs, four earned, on five hits in 4.1 innings. Mercedes struck out eight and walked four.
