Everett-based Leading Edge Gymnastics recently qualified a total of 38 gymnasts for the upcoming Level 4 and Level 5 state meets.
Leading Edge will send 16 athletes to the Level 4 competition Saturday in Federal Way, and 22 competitors to the Level 5 meet May 8-9 at Mariner High School.
Alesia Stair of Arlington led the Level 5 team at the North Sectional competition held April 17 in Mount Vernon. Stair, 10, won all four of her events (vault, bars, beam and floor exercises) and posted the highest all-around score of the meet (37.925 points).
In the 9-year-old age group, Leading Edge’s Jordan Widner of Snohomish won the Level 5 all-around with a score of 36.675.
In the Level 4 competition at sectionals, Megan Ponce, 10, and India Kato, 7, both of Everett, won all-around titles in their respective age groups. Ponce finished with 37.175 points and Kato scored 36.925.
Also, Kelsey Miller, 8, of Lake Stevens, tied for first place in the Level 4 all-around in her age group with 36.55 points.
Leading Edge won the team title at the Level 4 sectionals.
Golf
Koppenberg places second: Jacob Koppenberg, 17, from Everett, captured second place at the Pumpkin Ridge Junior Golf Shootout held April 17-18 in North Plains, Ore.
Koppenberg finished two rounds at the 6,800-yard, par-71 Ghost Creek Course at 1-over-par 143. He shot rounds of 70 and 73 to finish one stroke behind the winner, 16-year-old Patrick “Buddy” Duncan of Rancho Sante Fe, Calif.
