Three teams from Leading Edge Gymnastics won their divisions at the 25th Annual Flips Invitational held Jan. 13-15 in Reno, Nev.
The event is billed as the largest meet west of the Mississippi River, with better than 1,000 competitors.
Everett-based Leading Edge sent 48 gymnasts to the competition and captured team titles in Levels 5, 7 and 8.
Leading the way for the Level 8 team was Jessica Buehler, 13, of Snohomish, who won the all-around in her age group with a score of 37.625. Also capturing all-around titles in Level 8 were Kailie Ponto, 12, of Kenmore (37.05), and Kimi Liekwig, 17, of Redmond (34.625).
The Level 7 squad produced two all-around winners: Olivia Gaffney, 13, of Snohomish, and Jordan Widener, 12, of Snohomish. Gaffney produced a score of 36.975, and Widener won with a total of 36.85.
The Level 6 team, which placed second in its division, also produced an all-around winner in 11-year-old Kendall Shelford of Snohomish. She finished with a score of 36.075.
Bowling
Mariner clinches state berth: The Mariner High School bowling team clinched its fourth straight trip to the state tournament last week with a 17-1 victory in the Everett Parks and Recreation Mixed Bowling League.
With four matches remaining in the regular season, Mariner leads second-place Cascade in the team standings by 40 points. The state tournament is Feb. 18-19 in Tacoma.
Shaun Macy of Everett turned in the week’s high game (269). Ryan McKinney of Snohomish rolled the high series (664).
Among the girls, Holiann Haag of Lynnwood and Evelyn Potoczny of Kamiak tied for game-high honors, each rolling a 190.
