The National Lacrosse league announced on Monday that retired Toronto Rock goalkeeper Bob Watson has been voted into the league’s 2011 Hall of Fame Class.
Watson won six championships as a player, including win the Champion’s Cup in his final game in May, an 8-7 victory over the Washington Stealth.
Watson is the sole member of this year’s class. To be inducted into the Hall of Fame, nominees need a minimum of 75 percent of the ballots cast. Watson received 86 percent. If more than two players have more than 75 percent of the vote, the top two would be inducted, but Watson was the only nominee who reached the minimum number of votes this year.
Ballots were cast by the ten NLL teams, current members of the league’s Hall of Fame and member of the league’s covering media. Voters were allowed to select up to three of the six nominees on the ballot.
In addition to his championships, Watson was also named the league’s goalkeeper of the year in 2011 and 2008 and championship game MVP in 2003 and 2011. For his career, Watson saved 6,471 shots.
