Medicine Hat’s Linden Vey was named WHL Player of the Month for January, the league announced today. Vey had a great month, and I like him a lot as a player. But was he really more deserving than Everett’s Shane Harper? Granted, Vey outpointed Harper 25-21, which is significant. However:
– Vey played one more game than Harper.
– Harper scored more goals, leading 11-8, and goals are harder to come by than assists.
– Harper finished the month an astounding plus-12, while despite scoring 25 points Vey was just a plus-4.
– Ten of Vey’s points came in two games against bottom feeders Edmonton and Prince George, when the Tigers ran up the score.
– Harper’s team finished the month a perfect 14-0! Medicine Hat was 9-5-0-1.
