Links and Tuesday post-practice notes

The Everett Silvertips had a lengthy ice session today after getting the day off Monday. In addition to the normal drills the players practiced sacrificing the body to block pucks by sliding in front. They do use orange pucks which I assume are not nearly as hard as the standard puck. Sort of like learning how to turn away from an inside pitch by having someone throw a tennis ball at you.

There was also some power play work and seemingly a lot of shooting drills. Everett has been getting shots and head coach Kevin Constantine is pleased with how the Silvertips are creating chances – now the key is to make them. The session then closed with a shootout drill.

Lucas Skrumeda did practice Tuesday despite being listed on the WHL injury report as being out for one-to-two weeks with an upper body injury. Sean Mallonee was also back skating with the team after wearing a red non-contact jersey last week.

Everett gets a break from Portland now as Prince George and Vancouver come to town this weekend. The Cougars have won seven of their last 10 while the Giants are a mess after Brennan Menell and Jesse Roach reportedly quit Tuesday. Vancouver has lost nine of its last 10. We will, of course, have more coverage later in the week.
