LIVE BLOG: Everett Silvertips face Victoria Royals on the road

It’s Game Day for the Everett Silvertips as they’re in Victoria at 7:05 to take on the defending Scotty Munro champion Royals.

Everett still leads the U.S. Division, but is looking to end a two-game losing skid. I posted that blog last night – prior to Victoria’s 9-2 win over Eastern Division co-leader Swift Current. So Victoria is now 7-5 with back-to-back nine-goal nights and the individual scoring numbers have changed.

In other news:

– Team Alberta advanced to Sunday’s championship game of the U-16 Western Canada Challenge Cup with a 3-2 win over Team British Columbia Friday evening. Tips prospects Dylan Holloway and Ethan Browne assisted the game-winning goal.

– The B.C. government evidently passed ‘a little-known cabinet order Feb. 16 that meant the Employment Standards Act “does not apply to a player on a major junior ice hockey team” and effectively frees them from the future risk of having to comply with rules on minimum wage, statutory holiday pay and set work hours.’

The article also notes that the Washington state passed a bill in 2015 exempting its four U.S. Division teams. The Vancouver Sun also has this column.

– Former Silvertips prospect Nick Henry is now thriving in Regina where he is averaging a point per game.

– It sounds like former Tips defenseman and No. 2 overall NHL draft pick Ryan Murray is back on the shelf with an upper body injury.

– Tonight’s live blog is below. Feel free to weigh in.
