Lakewood senior Paige Shimkus was one of three local girls to win events Saturday at the Pasco Invitational, one of the largest prep track and field meets in the state.
Shimkus won the javelin with a personal-best throw of 144 feet, 6 inches, which ranks as the top mark in the state this season regardless of classification. It marked the fourth time she has broken Lakewood’s javelin record.
Shimkus was named one of the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association’s Athletes of the Week after a winning throw of 133-9 in the Birger Solberg Invitational in Bellingham on April 7.
Shorecrest senior Ami Njadoe won the 300-meter hurdles at the Pasco Invitational with a time of 44.72 seconds, which ranks second in the state regardless of classification.
Glacier Peak senior Elena Willems won the 800 meters in 2:17.66.
