Ryan Benzel, a teaching pro at Marysville’s Battle Creek Golf Course, shot a 3-over-par 74 on Monday and is tied for 43rd with a 1-over total of 143 after two rounds of the PGA Professional National Championship in Santa Ana Pueblo, New Mexico.
Benzel had a round of one birdie and four bogeys at Santa Ana Golf Club after playing his first round Sunday at nearby Twin Warriors Golf Course. He is one of 87 players to make the second-round cut, which was for the low 70 players plus ties.
The second-day leader is Mark Sheftic, who is a teaching pro at Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, Pa. He has a 7-under total of 135.
The top 20 players after Wednesday’s final round receive spots in the 91st PGA Championship at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minn., Aug. 13-16.
